Lenovo Partnership Expands Digital Learning in Malawi

At I Demand Access, we believe that access is a right, not a privilege, and that technology can be a bridge to a brighter future. Every girl deserves the chance to develop her full potential, and thanks to committed partners like Lenovo, that vision is becoming a reality.

Lenovo’s focus—providing smarter technology for all and advancing AI for All—aligns powerfully with our mission. Through grants, product donations, and the time and talent of their employees, Lenovo supports mission-aligned organizations like ours to increase access to STEM education.

Thanks to this partnership, the Othakarhaka Foundation (OTK) in Malawi is now expanding digital learning to some of the country’s most underserved communities. In areas where access to textbooks is limited and teacher-to-student ratios are high, the internet isn’t just a tool, it’s a lifeline. It accelerates learning, opens up new knowledge pathways, and connects students to a world of opportunity.

In 2024, Lenovo donated laptops, allowing OTK’s mobile computer lab, known as the Bloombox, to reach hundreds of additional students. These Lenovo Chromebooks are helping children prepare for competitive entrance exams, explore new subjects, and imagine futures they didn’t know were possible. For many, it’s their very first interaction with a computer.

This impact was made possible through Lenovo’s Month of Service, a global volunteer initiative where 3,600 Lenovo employees volunteered to causes they care about and impacted over 68,000 individuals, last year.  More than 60 employees dedicated over 300 hours to the OTK initiative. For the girls at OTK, this global movement became deeply personal, connecting them not only to technology, but also to the inspiring stories of Lenovo employees who once walked similar paths.

And the generosity didn’t stop there. In both 2024 and 2025, a Lenovo employee champion and her husband made personal donations of $5,000 each year—and Lenovo matched those donations at 200%, bringing the total contribution to $15,000 annually. These amazing individuals have helped light the path forward for countless girls in Malawi.

Coming September 2025: A New Chapter in Impact

We’re thrilled to announce our next collaborative initiative with Lenovo: a hands-on, joyful introduction to Artificial Intelligence for OTK girls, led by Lenovo volunteers!

This upcoming workshop will combine basic digital literacy with an approachable, creative first look at AI, bringing future-ready skills to girls who’ve never touched this kind of technology before. Even more meaningful, the session will follow OTK’s cherished “Passing on the Kindness” model, where young women who’ve received support become mentors for others in their community.

To all Lenovo employees, this is your moment.

Whether by volunteering, sharing your story, recording a video about your STEM journey, or contributing learning materials, you can help make this event truly unforgettable. Your experience, your background, your voice can be the spark that ignites a girl’s dream.

Let’s show these girls just how far their ambition can take them.

At I Demand Access, we’re proud to walk this journey with Lenovo, where every donation, every volunteer hour, and every act of kindness builds a future filled with hope, confidence, and possibility.

Thank you, Lenovo, for being part of this incredible story.

Let’s keep building together.
